Most Responsible Provider (MRP): Guide for Disputes

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Dr. Dan Kalla, Senior Medical Director for PHC Medical Affairs, has shared documents to guide dispute resolution, escalation, and the decision on the most appropriate MRP, if needed:

“At our November 2023 MAC meeting, we passed a motion to accept the documents regarding the Most Responsible Provider(MRP) in cases where there might be a dispute between services. This is a big step forward for the medical staff as for the first time we have documents guiding any disputes.

We recognize that this will be an evolving process and these will be living documents. Moreover, we hope and expect that respectful discussion between services at the staff to staff level will negate the need to consult these documents, except in rare cases.

However, if an impasse is met between service, these documents will be used to guide dispute resolution, escalation, and ultimately the decision on the most appropriate MRP.”
