Submitted on Behalf of Raluca Radu, Planetary Health Lead

Dear PHC colleagues,

 I am delighted to announce a new and exciting funding opportunity from the BC Ministry’s Health Innovation Hub bringing forth a climate stream as part of the Innovation Pathway Program for 2024/25. This stream looks for innovative approaches that strengthen health system climate resilience and that improve health outcomes in the context of British Columbia’s changing climate.

 Since 2022, the Ministry of Health’s Climate Resilience Unit has collaborated with B.C. health authorities to deliver on foundational health commitments under the provincial Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy (CPAS) to:

  •  Assess climate risks to health and the health system;

  • Build knowledge and capacity within B.C.’s health workforce to prepare and respond;

  •  Raise public awareness and equip people in B.C. with information to protect themselves and those in their care from the health risks of climate change; and

  • Promote cross-sectoral collaboration on innovative, evidence-based solutions grounded in cultural safety and health equity.

In 2024/25, the Ministry will be investing $1.0-1.4M to support the testing and assessment of climate innovations that reinforce and build upon the above mentioned CPAS commitments. Moreover, in the context of Providence Health Care and our long-term commitment to Planetary Health and environmental stewardship, this comes as a fantastic opportunity to scale out innovation for a myriad of health co-benefits that can ensue.

 Further details (including application requirements and intake form) can be found at the program guide below.
